Dana 44 on YJ

Get out the tape measure and check. Take off the wheel and measure from WMS to WMS ( wheel mount surface ) then should be close to the same, an inch difference in length is only a half inch on each side and will be fine. Someone else may chime in here but I think that CJ's from that old were all "narrow track" axles. My guess is that you will need to find a "wide track" to work in the YJ. The CJ's from the 80's came with both wide and narrow, I am just not sure when the started going wide. If that does not look watch out for an old scout, they are similar widths to a wide track, same bolt pattern, etc. But get ready for some more work, I doubt that you will find anything that will just bolt in, you may need to remove the old spring perches, and weld on new ones in the correct place.

A D44 from a pre-76 CJ will be too narrow for a YJ. Best fit is from a Scout, or the rather hard to find late '86 CJ7. You can alos look for one from the Commanche pickup, which will need the spring plates removed and installud under the axle.

No way... too narrow. The rare, wide track 86' D44 might work. Look at Scout or Wagoner axles (they are a bit wider, I think... but "wider is better").

Comanche's are spring-under from factory.
