I have a 99 TJ with the engine light on. I tried the on/off with the key, but get no error codes showing up. Any hints?
I believe it is the O2 sensor as I ran it with the exhaust hanging off before the primary (upstream) O2 sensor.
Anyway --- how else can I get the codes without buying the diagnostic tool or heading to a mechanic with one?

Sorry but without a diagnostic scan tool, you can't get the codes off your '99 TJ. There are a few years where they made the codes inaccessable and '99 is one of them.

Tried the possible methods each suggested (THANKS) but no luck. It did do the gauge test but nothing about error codes.
Will try getting a diagnostic tools.
