Folks seem to be missing something here....

The wear parts like bearings are 'not' magnetic.....

True and not true, Mike. The bearings are softer, not magnetic, and designed to take the wear, but the journals can wear down too. In fact, they will if a piece of grit gets stuck in the bearing material. Cylinder walls also wear down. Let's see, what else? Oil pump, timing gears, chain, valve train. Lots of sources of scrap iron exist inside an internal combustion engine. The trick is to decide where it's coming from, whether the source is still shedding metal, and whether the amount constitutes a problem or not.
