idle problems

my car has not been idling well at all. pretty much anytime i put the clutch in, the car dies. i took the venturi cluster out and cleaned the idle tubes out. i also drilled them out to .035 inch. it seemed to be working fine after that but yet again started to stall at every stop sign. i took the venturi out once again and cleaned the idle tubes. it seems to work for a little right after i do this but eventually stalls. anyone have any ideas? is the stalling being caused soley by the clogged idle tubes, or is there something else?

The Jeep will 'not' idle with blocked tubes.

You need to stop the idle tubes from plugging up by cleaning out the carburetor. You can buy a kit for the carb for about $25.00 that comes with all new gaskets.

Or at the 'least' you need to take the top off it and clean out the float bowl.

Are the idle tubes blocking with little pieces of black crap? If so, when you clean the float bowl, you also need to clean out the vent line that hooks onto the top side of the carb.

This vent line has two large tubes on the carb that go into one that go to the top of the charcoal canister and 'can' suck charcoal out of the canister into the carb when you run it out of gas and crank it for a long time. Some folks actually put a clear gas filter on this vent line to prevent this because the Jeep gas gauge doesn't work well so they run out too often.
