Jeep stuck in Part Time 4WD

Hi:

While going downhill accross a patch of ice, I shifted to Part Time 4WD on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It all went well until when I tried to shift it back to 2WD, no matter what I did, the display kept saying Part Time

4WD. I did I few things I saw on this forum, going reverse, put in Neutral, nothing changed. I also read that uneven tire pressure my prevent the transmission from shifting back to normal. Should I take it to Firestone and have them look at it from the "Tire Pressure" angel or take it to Ammco, the Transmission Specialist? I mean it drives fine but I have read that on flat dry surface, you should not drive in Part Time 4WD mode. Please help.

Hi:

I know WD-40 but I don't know what "line" you're referring to and the "cowl" ?

Thanks.

Try to leave the older information here instead of chopping it off all the time, it makes it easier for someone to follow what is going on.

The 95 Grand should not have a V6 unless you are a looonnnnng way from the US. Only a straight 6.

If you have a 4 Hi, 4 Lo, and 2 Hi, that would be the NP231 Transfer. There is a tag on the rear of the case to make sure. If so, it is directly shifted by a linkage, and the 4wd indicator is a simple switch located on the top front between the shafts. The mode is controlled by a simple fork. You may be able to check that it is in 2Hi by raising the vehicle front and trying to turn the front wheels.

The other 2 transfer cases have full time 4wd available...

AFAIK no Grand Cherokee ever had the vacuum switch. Sounds like his T case linkage needs adjustment.

What you're seeing in the pic of the full driveline is the wiring harness and vent tube. In the T case pics, you're looking at the electrical position indicator switch connector. Only the Jeeps with a front axle disconnect had the vacuum switch, and no Grand ever had the front axle disconnect.

I don't see any in the 1995 FSM. Possibly Bill knows more than the Chrysler engineers of course.

For the OP. Neither of the two places would be anywhere I'd take a Jeep or pretty much any other vehicle for mechanical work.

Hi all:

This morning when I got in the jeep, the Part Time 4WD light was not there anymore. Speculate amongst yourselves...

So be it :)

Thanks for all your help.

This is March...... more likely an early visit from Leprechauns.

Have you noticed any little green pipe smoking men about your place? Have you wondered why things are not where you left them the night before?

Perhaps you be needing to leave an offering of a plate of corned beef and cabbage on the back porch. If it gone in the morning I think you may have found your problem.

LOL, you guys are just too funny!!

When my friend Jose left for Spain, he told me to use the car, get it up and running, so the guy at Firestone said the "Crank Sensor" broke apart or something and it was stuck or a piece of it was stuck somewhere in the transmission, he will have to "drop" the transmission. When he told me the price, I nearly dropped something in my pant. Just happy the light went away.
