Jeep stuck in Part Time 4WD

I would not begin troubleshooting by suggesting to the OP to look for components the vehicle doesn't have, you'll just confuse him. Like I posted, I thought the T case linkage might be out of adjustment and the T case wasn't shifting all the way out of 4wd.

The axle disconnects were vacuum-operated, that's the reason why there is a vacuum switch for the indicator on those models.

In fact XJ's DID stop using vacuum switches when they went to one-piece axles. My '93 XJ, with a one-piece front axle, had an electrical switch. I know that because the 4wd indicator light did not light up in any position, and I determined it was probably a bad switch or an electrical failure between the switch and the light.

Lon checked his 95 Grand FSM, no mention of a vacuum switch.

Any further questions?

I liked the Gremlin. They probably could have sold a lot of the 4x4 version if it had been available.

Check the thread "Dana 44 ABS".

Will you be a man and stand corrected on this thread?

It is just a switch or the linkage is slightly out of adjustment. Both are relatively 'easy' fixes.

My bet is the linkage is unused and a little stiff.

Never go back to the Fool that gave you the total BS story about the crank sensor. The crank sensors do fail, but they are located outside the top corner of the bell housing and under the distributor cap. Nothing needs dropping, nor is it slightly related to the 4x4 light switch, he is a rip off artist or has no clue in the world!

In truth, I was hoping someone more familiar with the transfer case would know the answer. I have a different one and there was only one that had the 2h 4h 4l settings--I'm just not at all familiar with it. Of course some folks will still insist on looking for the vacuum line.
