manual transmission choices for a 93YJ

Hey Folks



I have a 93YJ, 2.5" spring lift, 31" bfg AT's and have a couple of questions.



the ax15 in it needs to be replaced or repaired. 3rd gear synchros dont work, and I have to double clutch to shift. It's the OEM trans, and would like to know should I replace, repair or upgrade.



I have heard good things about the chevy nvg4500 and it looks like all I would need to do is to get the bellhousing and trans mount adapters.



I do light fourwheeling, and camping. I plan on lower gearing, and installing rear lockers,



I know if I stay stock, ax15 it should just bolt in, but if I spring for the bigger trans, I can do more aggressive stuff, not extreme wheeling, rock climbing or mud bogs.

The 4500 might be overkill unless you're planning on big power upgrades. It's big, heavy, and expensive. But, it's also bullet proof.

You'll probably need a 2 or 3 inch body lift before it'll fit between the cross member and the body.

How many miles are on your Jeep? Unless you plan on going really big, a rebuilt ax15 should be up to the task (as long as you maintain it).
