There's a video floating aroud out there of some middle-eastern fellow backing his Landcruiser(?) into the water to unload his jetski. Problem was his jetski was IN the back and he had to go in quite far. He forgot to set his parking brake and it sank. He save his ski tho.

Being aware of your rigs limits is a good thing. I can't see any real problems with a lifted Jeep towing, although the reactions will likely be different than stock. I think I would try an empty parking lot out and jam the brakes on at 40 or 50 mph to see how it handles.

I recommend the same for the first snow storm in any 'new' vehicle, especially a 4x4. The brakes act very strange when locked into 4x4.

My single ski is around 750lbs dry.....the trailer can't be more than a few hundred pounds either....only takes two people to lift it.....so its nowhere close to 2000lbs.

Probably not a total. It's not going to rust, and the driveline and brakes are easily flushed out. The main concern would be the cheesy electrical system.

Back to towing, I have hauled as much a 1500 Lbs trailer (with brakes)carrying a 6500 Lbs.military truck for 700 miles. Of course, my rig isn't stock, it's a 101 inch wheelbase jeepster with a 455 Buick, T-400, power disk front brakes, etc. It weights around 5000 lbs, but it was still scary coming down the Grapevine into a wall of fog. I had it in compound low with the hubs unlocked. This was before the lift and 35 in. tires.

If wheelbase length is the controlling factor, it seems like there would be a wide range of weights for different jeep wrangler-type models. There's a pretty significant range of different lengths, from the CJ5 on the short end to the CJ8 on the high end.

It is also the design of the beast and the weight ratio on the front and rear axles, lot of things come into play.

I just know for sure that cops watch for trailers and 'will' bust you for an overload.

Whatever you want to tow, if you are going to tow it any distance or regularly, I recommend you check it out in an empty parking lot. Jam the brakes on at 40 or 50 mph and see what it does.

Much safer than getting caught by surprise.
