oil pressure on my TJ

check the oil levels first, but I bet its your oil pressure sending unit going bad. My 98 is on its 4th one already.

Steve, I agree with Del's reply, to try the sending unit. I had to replace mine a few months ago. The symptoms were a lot like you are describing. Mine would drop so low I would get a beep and a check engine light, but just for a second. I got mine form AutoZone. I think it was about $35. Be careful, They call it a pressure switch. That almost fooled me into not going to get it from them. But it turned out to be a sending unit.

Check the pressure sender first - it's a common problem. That said, I got identical sympthoms last summer when my oil pump started south on me. It's normal for the pressure to follow RPM when the engine is warm - on a hot day my well broken in 4.0 (160k miles) has a hot idle (800 RPM) of 25 PSI or so, running 45-50 at highways speeds (2200 RPM or so).
