My cat converter is rattlin' something fierce at around 1200-1500 RPM. Any fix for this or am I looking at a new one? If so, what should I get (factory or aftermarket) and what do they cost roughly?

Handywired did pass the time by typing:
Make sure it's not the heat shield around the cat. A real long hose clamp can secure it long enough to find out.
If it is internal your better replacing it quickly before it barfs into the muffler and you get even more rattles.
Used to say aftermarket, but for the most part OEM/Factory parts are better. All depends.

It's more like 100,000 in CA, 80k Federal, covered under the Emissions warranty.
It is probably not "in" the cat, but rather the heat shielding "on" the cat.
Once the catalyst breaks up into pieces it rattles pretty good, mine was in 3 big chunks. Also be careful working around that stuff if it anything like the catalyst that I work with in the oil industry it is heavy metal based ( Actually it is nickel sulfate I just looked it up) and not something you want to breath in.

The nickel in the cat eliminates really awful sulphurous (rotten egg) odor. A number of mfrs have tried to eliminate it due to environmental conerns, but the public simply can't stand the "stinky poo" smell.
