Bill, no one can fool you it was in a sand pit in Southern Cali but I an not sure of the location. My bud from an Up-State Jeep club linked me up just thought I would pass it on it looks so fun.

I have wheeled with the Land Rover factory team when they were showing new Discovery owners what their 'stock' Discos could do.

They were extremely competent and could follow all the Jeeps easily across water and on sand pit wall climbs.

Put a snorkel on one of them, and the driver don't even get wet....

Well, one did... He opened his doors and Niagara Falls poured out. Man was he pissed...

Don't they float then? At some point, don't you have to flood the interior?

I never saw any of them appear to lose traction. I got a funny feeling you would need a 'lot' more air than the cab holds to float a tank like that.

They also have a splash guard on the front bottom that looks like the front prow of a boat.

They were a riot on the sand pit walls! In order to make the top of the biggest one, they 'all' had to be going fast enough at the 2/3 point that the emergency systems fired off. The horn starts honking and the headlights and flashers all come on flashing.

We were standing at the top saying 'nope' he isn't making it if the horn and lights didn't fire off.

A (cubic) yard of water weighs almost 1690 pounds, so it might be hard to get bouyancy to affect traction in a Wrangler-size vehicle, but in an expedition box like the original Land Rover, seems to me might be a problem.

I frankly don't know whether their passenger compartments were sealed.

The Disco's sure are sealed. So are the TJ's for that matter. I have been in up to the side door windows in a TJ and we didn't get wet for a while....

By the time we got the winch set up to the tree, some was starting to seep in but I never got wet feet. Just wished I had of brought the shotgun, it was deer fly season and all we had on was the bikini and half doors

I have had my CJ7 running with a bow wave off the windshield and had lots of grab still. One Jeep could have sure used a snorkel on that run... Some YJ's have a ram air scoop under the freakin' headlights....

My relatively unbiased view -well, I would say that wouldn't I ?

Pros LRs have better axles, chassis and hubs than TJs. LRs can carry a lot more payload than TJs. LRs have proper wheels/tyres from the factory, unlike TJs and a much more sensible length of control arm. LRs have about the same quality of gearbox as TJs, and a stronger transfer case.

Cons LRs are not as well built as Jeeps, and have electrical problems and rust problems. LRs cost more than TJs. LRs dont have such a good engine as TJs now that they have scrapped the

A stock LR 90/110/130 will piss all over a stock TJ. Spend a few grand on your TJ, and you get the equivalent for less money overall.
