Softer ride for 75 CJ5?

Aug 24, 2003 4 Replies

Hello all, I have a 75 CJ5 that rides like a brick. It has a 2 1/2" lift kit with Rancho 5000 shocks. I would like to put new shocks on it to soften up the ride. I mean, every time I hit a little bump or small pothole the whole truck just goes BANG, BANG, really rough, and throws everyone about 2 inches out of their seats.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand and/or model of shocks are softer? I don't drive the truck off-road very much so I'm looking for a softer street ride.

Thanks a lot,

Todd in Toronto.

I ran into the same thing with my '75. I already had the RS9000's, but I have to set them on "1" the softest setting or I'll take a hell of a beatin'! both on and off-road.

Canadian Tire gotcha eh?

I also have those damn Rancho 5000 shocks because they were the ones sold for lifts. I didn't know any better.

The stupid things have a lifetime warranty on them too!

Hey Todd, there are a bunch of us from this newsgroup that are going on a long weekend run up in the Bancroft area. Interested?

Crown land bush wheeling and camping, white sand beach at the lake, fish, etc.

I am going in Thursday but am coming out to the trail head Friday night at 10:00 to meet up with some folks from Montreal and Toronto that are coming after work on Friday.
