I have an 86 CJ7 with the 258 and Carter BBD on it.
Here's my problem...
I am about to undertake a full carburetor rebuild today with care to clean out those idle tubes and get all my settings right, but wanted to make sure I was solving my biggest idling problem at the same time.
While my jeep struggles with cold mornings and idling in general, it also stalls on deceleration or downhill and revs higher on uphill (when idling). I originally thought it was a vacuum leak problem (which I will be checking for today as well) but wanted to see if there was another culprit I might be missing. One piece of advice suggested I check the float level which I will during the rebuild. Anything else?
By the way, thanks to all the generous contributors on this group. I am amazed at the time and thoughtfulness that goes into responses. For me, a first time jeep owner (86 cj7), it has been a huge resource to get me up to speed.
