Any reason that these tires suck?
I want a fairly aggressive tire for mostly street and some offroad driving, to include mud and wet snow in Western Oregon and rocky stuff in Central Oregon. However, I am not a recreational mudder and don't want or need true mud tires; I just don't wnat to fear mud, as I now do with my AT's. These seem to be rated a little better than the BFG MT's, so I am leaning towards the Goodyears. Talk me out of it anyone?

The MTR's wear 'really' fast on the street/highway and get torn all to crap on sharp rocks or gravel roads.
I just compared my BFG muds's with 30,000 miles on them to a friends MTR's with less than 20K and I have over twice the tread left.
We had to look at mine really hard to try and find any cuts or chunks out of them, there were a couple little dings.
His MTR's are shredded beyond any resale value. I sure wouldn't buy them. (he wanted to dump them if he could get some money for them and get BFG's)
Mine could be sold as 'almost new condition' with slight even wear still.
We wheel on the same trails.

Judging from the broad range of uses these tires are getting I'd say it's more than a safe call. The only negative I've heard is accelerated tire wear vs BFG MTs. Also, pricing has become more competitive vs the BFGs. HAd they not been over $50 more per tire I'd have chosen these last year over another set of BFGs, just to see how they were. I'm very happy with the BFG MT kms, however.
Ironically, and don't tell the wife , but the wearing fast does not bug me too much. These are 31's, and in a couple years I am thinking I'll be able to retire the TJ to more of "toy" status and lift it, etc. So... if these are getting pretty worn in a couple years, that's a good excuse to buy new tires, right?
Can't seem to wear my damn AT's out though...

I have them on my '98 TJ and my '04 Rubi and I am very happy with them.

I have used bfgoodrich at's on all my jeeps, xj cj5 f4 land cruiser and my

I have BFG AT's on the TJ now, and they are good tires. But I want something more aggressive. I get out on the logging roads a lot, and the mud around here is very slick clay stuff, and AT's absolutely SUCK for that, so much so that I basically don't even try mud with my Jeep. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to go mud-boggin'; I just want good mud performance when I need it. Also, where I hunt elk it can snow like crazy, we got hammered last year, and my Jeep is an important tool in elk camp at that point. It needs to be able to handle that as well as possible too.

I have 35" MT/R's and I am fairly happy with them. They don't clean out as well as my buddies' swampers in the mud, but I do ok. It was also a toss up for me between brands, and I chose based on country. Goodyear is American owned, BFG is French.
Make any comment you want about those Frenchies, or my politics, or even that I have my head up my ass. I chose American, buddy.

Michelin employs 20,000 Americans in seven states. It pumps billions into local economies, uses local American suppliers, and pays millions in local, state and federal taxes. A good chunk of Michelin North America is owned by its American employees and American investors.
I'd like to tell you I bought my BFGs because of all the money Michelin invests in small towns in my province, but the truth is I got a great deal through a relative's employee discount benefit. Otherwise, I probably would have tried the MT/Rs.

72,000 miles on my Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires and still have 4/32" left. 68,000 miles on my Goodyear Regatta 2 tires and they have 5/32" left.
