TJ brake light problem, Help needed please.

A friend has a 98 TJ and the brake lights don't appear to have power.

The signals work and the emergency flasher works but the brake pedal doesn't.

I haven't crawled under myself because I am not able, but from the schematics (I only have the 2003 TJ wiring schematics, not the 98 one) it appears the pink wire should be hot all the time from the fuse. My friend says he sees .5 to 1.0 volts there with my meter. None of the other wires are hot and the switch is dangling now (removed) so it should be 'on'.

The fuse appears to be fine.

Is there something else I am missing that might crap out the power to the switch?

Thanks for any ideas,

Mike

The front signals have those push in style, didn't open the rears.

I was checking the front one for heat damage due to a fender bender at one time crushing the fixture. The wiring looked perfect up there so I went looking elsewhere.

That is the trick, there isn't any power coming to the switch on the pink wire so nothing going out the white/tan.

I have heard of the flasher and multifunction switches interfering with brake lights which is why I first checked a previously damaged front socket's wiring for heat damage from a recent accident. It seems fine.

I am looking for something else on the power side.

Hmm, front impact. I wonder if the wiring harness behind the fuse panel could have pulled the wire loose behind the fuse or when they changed it they pushed too hard or the suckers just fall out like the recent door switch thread. Have to check to see if there are two sockets I guess.

Thanks, any more ideas are welcome.
