TJ got raided for food out camping!

LOL! Well, that was a first for me!I was out camping in the deep bush with a friend in his TJ and we werebeing careful about garbage and any open food or smells because there isa nuisance bear warning in the general area. Politicians stopped thespring hunt so a new generation of bears isn't equating people withguns, instead they are raiding homes and camps for food.So I have just finished making and eating breakfast and we are down tothe lake washing dishes.I come walking back up to see a freaking raccoon trying to run away witha whole loaf of bread. I yell for my buddy that we are getting raidedby a coon and he says 'what the heck is the coon doing out in the day?' I answered, 'stealing our bread!' So we chased the bugger up a tree and he drops the bread on a branchabout 15 feet up. Frig that, I get a stick and retrieve the bread. Turns out it was a bag of sesame egg hot dog buns and they are still ok.Great, so we put them into a zippered bag where we though they werezipped into in the first place. I sort of grumble about leaving foodbags open and Jay swears he closed it. Ok, I'm not going to argue.So the coon comes back a couple more times during the day and we treedhim both times. He still didn't get the point...Come night, we made sure no food was open with anything smelly lockedinside the cooler and put the bread and buns in this zip up bag in theTJ and we zipped up the TJ and closed the doors.I get up in the morning and open the TJ only to find a pile of crumbs inthe drivers seat and the empty bag of hot dog buns sitting on the floor!WTF?'Nothing' else was touched, we had bags of nuts and cereals and otherbreads and not a ding on anything!Ok, so I am checking around trying to figure out just how the heck thisdamn coon got in there, let along back out and get Jay up. Then we seethe paw prints in the dust.The raccoon had gone all the way around the soft top trying to open upthe velcro and zippered windows! He almost got them open in severalplaces and...

Well, I don't remember having heard someone take one off, without damage (stoopid stunts...'nuff said). My dad's fell off in my hand once. Old vehicle...happened to be a really hot day, if htat even helped...

I will have to agree with them.

There is a set screw in it so you can get all but a little square off.

I try to do that at least 100 yards from my camp, no sense in waking up to dancing bears.

A few years ago I was at a motorcycle campout in the redwoods with about 100 others, and upon coming back to her camp from the main bonfire, a friend discovered her $400 custom made leather jacket to be missing. These events are attended by some pretty decent people, (no alcohol or drugs), and thefts would be unlikely. A bunch of us wandered around and couldn't find it. She had layed it up against a tree next to her tent. In the morning, i went out to do as we need to do then, and discovered drag marks from the tree into the brush. About half way down the hill, I found her jacket with the inner liner chewed out at the pocket. She said some candy was in there, but wasn't now!

The year before, 6 of us were sitting around a small fire, eating peanuts and throwing shells into the fire. One guy was tossing them behind him. He was told he shouldn't do that as it attracts racoons. Just about then, one of the ones behind him sniffed his elbow. You should have seen that city boy jump!
