what's with the turning radii?

I was checking out kbb.com's awesome used car comparator, and stumbled upon this interesting piece of information.

The 2005 TJ has a 93.4" wheel base and a turning radius of 36.7'. My 2005 TJ Unlimited has a 103.4" wheel base and a turning radius of 36.0'. My 1996 XJ Country has a 101.4" wheel base and a turning radius of 35.9'. My 1995 YJ has a 93.4" wheel base and a turning radius of 32.9'.

I've rented the 05 TJ, and own or have owned the other three, and my experience has been that the YJ and XJ each have a tight turning radius, but the TJs are much worse. The numbers make it look like my XJ And TJ unlimited should be almost the same.

Are those numbers bogus, or did I forget to remove some hard stops on my steering wheel?

Well, you could adjust the steering stops. But watch for rubbing under flex.

I freed up a little more from the ZJ by removing the old stops and installing new bolts that didn't have a nut welded to them. It will rub under flex but for the street it's much easier. And I can amost out turn a neon. :)

I'd guess the TJ's radius is limited so the tires don't contact the lower control arms,, though it shouldn't make that much difference since the leaf springs are in the same place. Maybe the YJ's frame is narrower than a TJ.

That said, those numbers do look off, the TJ, TJL and XJ share the same front end components, so all things being equal it stands to reason the TJ should have a tighter radius than the TJL & XJ.
