Your CB radio? I've been looking all over inside my TJ, can't find a place that won't get kicked or knocked around by a seat folding forward. I really don't want to make any more damage than necessary.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

I've got all my ham gear in a Tuffy dual overhead radio console.

And these things can be found cheaper then the place linked to. Just search the web on the Tuffy part number. The wires are routed through split loom tubing purchased at Harbor Freight.
Thank you Scott, it's a great idea.
*sigh* it definitely interferes with that wide open space overhead though. I wonder how it would work with my sunrider, I suppose no differently than with any other soft top.I'll show it to the "Boss" and see what he thinks.
yup... good food for thought.

Hmmmm. A handheld works great. I have a permanent radio mounted in my Wrangler and a handheld in case some one on a run lacks a radio, or to communicate with a spotter. They work quite well, and the best thing, no installation.

Mine might not be an option for you, but it may inspire you. :) I mounted mine on my sound bar next to my head, display facing forward:
I'm not one for fiddling with channels or settings while moving, so having to turn around in my seat to see the face isn't a big problem for me. If I _had_ to, I can change channels by counting clicks of the dial, and volume and squelch are set by ear anyway.
It's nice having the speaker right by my ear, the better to hear in a noisy and sometimes topless Jeep. Mounted up so high it's hardly noticeable but doesn't interfere with either hard or safari tops; the only part I can see in the rearview is the mic cord hanging down. Wiring is run through split loom, zip tied to the roll bar and under the passenger door jamb.
I put mine in the centre console, where it isn't obvious to some little b*stard who wants to nick it.
Dave.
I have mine mounted to the transmission hump in front of the shifter. I have an external speaker plugged into the back and mounted in the sound bar right next to my ear. I can even hear the truckers when I'm rolling 60mph with the top down.

Kate, I have mine mounted low on the dash in front of the "ashtray" or whatever they call it now. Granted I use small CB's to fit there - Unidens and such. We modified the standard mount so that the radio fits tight up against the dash (you just have to drill two holes in the mount) and it does NOT interfere with the shifter.

Although I have a unit mounted in my Wrangler, in my opinion, the handheld is the way to go. No mounting hassles. No external antennas on your jeep. The handheld allows you the freedom to communicate to your fellow jeepers not only from the confines of your vehicle, but away from it as well. Most have the same wattage as there mobil breteren and perform just as well. Also you need not tune the antenna, as need be in most mobile CB aplications. Again my .02 worth.
Good luck. Greg
How about one of the types with all the controls on the microphone? The box mounts of sight.
Like came stock in my '78 Bronco:
THAT is the one I wanted. Though I keep hearing that they are not so great after all. I think it would work great for my application but I'm kind of leaning toward a handheld for right now. If I'm unhappy with it I can upgrade later and use it for a lot of other stuff too.
