XJ name that part/pieces

Crap. Past couple of days I notice my fuel economy going to hell, got home from work today and was about to leave again when the xj wouldn't crank. Opened up the hood and the first injector was spewing gas everywhere, so I replaced all fuel injector o-rings.

When I was putting it all back together (losing daylight so I was hurrying) I got it all back and went to plug in what I believe is the Fuel Return Line, and I cut the o-rings by putting it back in hastily. There were 2 orange rings on the outside of a black ring.

Its on a 90 XJ 4.0L. Is this the fuel return line? Coming off the fuel rail, front of the engine, to a metal fuel line? I need to know specifically what to ask for, I dont trust the parts guys too much. I'm so pissed I cut those o-rings!!! argh!

Ya I stopped by autozone today and they didn't know anything about it and their computers didn't help. I ended up buying a multi o-ring pack and making it work with some redneck ingenuity. Although now it's all back together the damn injector is still leaking, the rail seems to cut the o-ring. I just came inside to get some water while I sent the gf to get another pack of them. I'll let ya'll know how this turns out and what that damn piece is called when I find out.

I'm not sure if you have the same type of connector I do but mine has a couple of ears, two o-rings and a plastic seperator. That's an assembly and a real bitch to replace.

If that's the connector then the part you need is.

How exactly that goes in I dunno. Your supposed to pry out the old rings and plasitc spacer then shove this in, twist the plug out and your done. Me, I had a spare connector assembly from another project.

I hope you didn't tear yours down to show me! If you did you have one clean ride.

Yup thats the little part I will be needing. I kinda forced it back in with some aftermarket o-rings and the plastic piece spread a little and it doesn't leak for now, so I will keep that part number in case it does spring a leak.

The o-ring that was being cut when I was pushing the fuel rail back on the injector, this time I lube'd it with some wd-40 and it went on with no problems. I now have no leaks thankfully, but I'm sure the next thing that may have a problem would be that connector you identified for me, thanks a bunch! I would not have been able to find it on my own for sure, was it in the FSM?

:) Nah, I didn't tear it apart. But I do take pictures when it is.

When doing injectors or any o-ring work (including the fuel filter which has the same type of connector) it's important to squirt a bit of motor oil on the rings.

That repair part is shown in the FSM but it's not even in the online catalog used at the dealer. It's a specialty repair part that was intended to be used every time any fuel rail was off and not just for the Jeep. Thing is they never use them so it dropped off the normal ordering system. They still have them though. It's just a carrier for the o-rings and spacer.

I wish they would have used AN fittings. Heck, next mod will probably be custom fuel line. Especially if we go to E85 around here. The stock rubber lines/pump/rings will melt with that much ethanol.

What ever you do, don't loose those injector clips. They only come with a new rail and that sucker is way expensive. They are also a hard to find junkyard part.

Did you think to lube the o-ring before squeezing it back in? I've used engine oil, 3-1, silicone, and soap - all seem to work a lot better than a dry fit. K-Y might work as well...
