Has anyone replaced the chrysler motor in their YJ with a ford 300 straight 6? If so what did you have to replace, adapt or just reword entirely? I have a 95 YJ with a 4 cyl which is on its last legs, I have always been very impressed with the torque on the 300 and was seriously considering replacing the 2.5l with the 300. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do yourself a BIG favor and give this project a serious rethink.
If you want to vonvert to a straight 6 (a noble goal) you would be FAR better off putting in a Jeep 4.0, not only is it an excellent engine but the factory already enginered everthing, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. If you get yourself a parts Jeep with a 4.0 it should have just about evething you need, if you insist on the Ford engine you are going to have to come up with brackets, adapters, a custom exaust, and about a thousand other things.

Motor mounts Transmission mount exaust pipes clutch linkage (if it's a stick) shift linkage throttle linkage radiator hoses (radiator?)
Then you are going to have to connect the engines electronics to the Jeeps electrical system. Plus what are you going to have to do to the frame (holes, welding?) to attach the engine mount brackets.
Nothing againts the Ford motor, it's an excellent engine, second best car I ever owned had one of those engines.
If were to do an engine swap with something other than a Jeep engine you would be a lot better off even putting in a SBC, that has been done and all the parts are redeally available. (And I NEVER suggest putting in a SBC!)

You're in for more changes than just the engine. Even if it bolts right up (which I seriously doubt) the AX5 manual transmission is too light. The engine is just the start of the mods you'll wind up making to get it back on the road.
In place of the SBC you can put a GM 4.3l V6 or a Chevy truck inline six. Check the Advance Adapter catalog for details. The inline 6 performance will be close to what you expect from the 300 cid Ford, with the advantage of not having to fabricate every part. Transmission: you need a bigger transmission, even for the six cylinder engine. In the early Wrangler days Jeep put the AX-5 transmission and similar boxes behind the AMC sixes, with disappointing results. The V6 has the advantage of lightness. Another innovative solution that has been bantered about for some time is a GM small V6, 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 or maybe even 3.8 liter which should bolt up to your Jeep bell housing, but then you have to make or find the motor mounts, exhaust, throttle linkage and all of that anyway. Or you can get the S-10 or Camaro bell housing which might bolt up to your existing transfer case. Not guaranteeing anything here, you understand.
The more time you spend engineering at the drawing board, the less you will spend in the garage trying to make stuff fit and wondering how you ever talked yourself into it. The first Jeep engine swap I was involved in took about three years to be completed.
