2000 Kia Sportage and Power Window Problems

My windows recently in the last 3 weeks haven't been working.I have replaced the fuse on the inside panel as well as the fuse under the hood. When the fuse under the hood was replaced, I tested the windows and they all worked for the few seconds I tried them then turned the car off for the night. The next morning I went to try them and NOTHING..It is no longer under warranty and I want to know what to expect as far as $$ goes if I do have to take it in..anybody else have this problem? ALSO, I don't think my 4-wheel drive works which from what I have read, is yet another common problem with this car..Like many others out there, I owe way more than the car is worth, so I'm pretty much stuck with it for a while..but the day it's paid off, I'm getting something I feel SAFE in..even if it means yet more carpayments..

ASSUMING THAT YOU LIVE IN NORTH AMERICA...

THERE WAS A RE-CALL ON THE SPORTAGE WINDOW REGULATORS AND TRANSFER CASE FOR THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM. CONTACT YOUR NEAREST DEALER BY PHONE AND PROVIDE THEM WITH YOUR VEHICLES IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (V.I.N) LOCATED ON YOUR DASHBOARD AT THE BASE OF YOUR DRIVERSIDE WINDSHIELD. IF YOUR VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN (WITCH BY THE SOUNDS OF IT... YOU LIKELY ARE...) IT WILL COST YOU NOTHING.

HOPE IT HELPS.

If you are prepared with the Vehicle Identification numbers, any dealer should be able to tell you whether there are any open recalls on yours.

Be sure to have your front hub bearings checked regularly. The front hubs have a tendency to suck water into the hubs and damage the bearings.

For the windows, you'll probably have to pull the door panels and check for chafed wiring. Look especially around the door checker.

Thanks..I'll have the mechanic in the family take a look at it..at least the AC still works, it's been in the 90's here and not being able to roll the windows down has been a pain..but one good thing...it keeps me out of the drive thru's ;-)
