kea cam belt

Hi i am new to this so i hope i am doing things right. I have a 1998 kea sportage (squire) 4x4, I need to no if they do damage to the engine if the cam belt breaks or does the engine just stop your advice will be much appretiated . Thank you

Most of the Kia engines are interference engines, meaning they do cause damage if the belt brakes. But you need to have a mechanic do a once-over to make sure. A quick compression test (and maybe one or two other things) should be all that is necessary.

The engine will certainly STOP but no damage will be done. This is not true for the newer style sportage which does have an interference engine.
