ABS activating when it shouldn't...

May 10, 2007 5 Replies

Over the last couple of weeks the abs has been activating when i've been nearing a halt, but when i'm on tarmac.

Pedal goes rock hard, you hear the "Sproing" and then it clears.

Anyone had anything like this, and what caused/solved it?

(just trying to save myself diagnostic time)

Cheers

I have had a couple of very close instances when turning sharply and obviously with a little too much speed into parking spaces.

My guess was that the tight turning circle(as tight as you can get in an old disco)confused the system by the outer wheel travelling much faster than the inner one while braking and slowing down fairly briskly.

I just go much slower into parking spaces now.

Even wear, proper inflation for size, just over 10K of use, AT/R's.

I'm pretty sure the ABS isnt activating because it needs to, but wondering if a sensor has moved, and the magnetic field is being sensed incorrectly because of that.

Mine been like that for years now.

Spoke to service and keep forgetting to have them check when actually in for something. Says it's probably the ABS sensor not set right as that started if I remember after my right-rear wheel was replaced.

When that happens one feels if not able to stop, Did notice if I push peddle really hard..it does engage braking.

Once the ABS light is lit, I have no more problems. Seems to disable the ABS system.

For the time being I pulled the ABS fuse, not a fab solution, but works for me.

Will pull and reseat the ABS sensors when I get a chance
