Back after a few years break 1975 SWB questions

someone on the Local Freecycle group is giving away a 75 SWB, so I'm going to have a peep tomorrow she's "spares or repairs" I'm hoping she's repairable, realisticaly how much is worth taking on? dont want it to be a money pit as I'm only after something to do as a bit of a project over the summer.

thought I'd gotten the LR thing out of my system when I said goodbye to the V8 Disco !!

Even in excellent order, if it has a Land Rover badge it'll be a money-pit!

However, with the average japanese badge it'd be more of a cash-quarry so it's all relative ...

Check that it's sorned or been off the road since before sorn was introduced otherwise you will be liable for all the back tax and the fine when they catch up. Otherwise you're getting it for nothing and it's a land rover so expect rust in most places - some bits being cheap some bits being not so cheap to repair. The engine and transmission will probably be ok after some tinkering but the brakes and swivels will almost certainly need work.

Estimate 5-£600 on the road if you can weld and are willing to patch things and use second hand parts - expect a bit more then if it's less you'll be happier! If you can't weld or would be considering new parts all over the place forget it as it'll be uneconomic.

In news: snipped-for-privacy@shedcity.demon.co.uk, AJG wittered on forthwith;

Not true, you're only liable from when the vehicle is registered to you. If it'll take a while to get on the road and you've not got the logbook yet you can go to the local post office and fill in a form to Sorn it while you wait. I think the form is a V81.
