Beach Work

Dear Group, I bought a troopi and am going to do some beach driving and would like to rust proof my Landi. It has been suggested that I spray sump oil inside the chassis. Any suggestions.

Ensis oil mixed with a little diesel would probably work better. And buying a galvanised chassis would be better still.

I would recommend a wax based spray with creep potential (waxoyl type stuff) but most important is hose the motor off after use my first job after school was in the lab of an electroplating factory we used salt spray to measure resistance to corrosion for military spec jobs it taught me one important thing salt spray WILL sooner or later corrode exposed metal plated or dipped no matter how thick the coating is (NB pedants stainless steel is neither and nor is phospher bronze coated or dipped) of course you could always nickel plate that lasts well (joke - ) Derek

use new oil, not sump oil - combustion products in the latter can be corrosive, or so someone told me.

On mainland Australia, opposite Fraser Island (the world's largest sand island) the car wash places have oil spray you can spray underneath your car to protect it from the salt water. We get it done before and after our trips there. Not sure where you are if you have this available. Have fun.
