Disco 11 Cam

Hi all The ser 11 Disco 4.0 V8i auto is in need of a camshaft, lifters and a rocker check. It's only done 104,000 Kilometers but is getting very rattley in the top end. I have heard that they had premature cam wear so that's why I'm guessing cam. OK, keep in mind I am in the land of Aus, what cam should I use, I am happy with the performance of the standard cam, but if there is a good quality one that will give me better performance then, I would use it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

TIA S

*Most* rover V8 engines "eat" the cam by around 80-90,000 miles, rocker shaft wear also being quite advanced at the same or similar mileage. (The rocker shaft wear was present when Buick designed it, but they saw fit to do nothing about it, their logic being that it'd be out of warranty by the time it was an issue! Some things never change, it would seem.....)

You've pretty much answered your own question, I think. If you are happy with the performance, keep it standard. Any cam change for "better" performance will be a trade-off somewhere in the rev range and economy will suffer. The 4.0 cam is a very good profile, helping towards the increased fuel efficiency of the engine over its 3.9 predecessor and giving a very smooth power delivery with a wide torque spread. My 4.0 SII disco gives quite remarkable fuel economy over my 4.0 110, (18.5 mpg v's 12!!), both having the same engine and autobox, but the 110 having a 3.9 cam and engine management setup. Incidentally, the 4.0 with Thor manifolding and Motronic management system is, in my opinion, the best version of the rover engine ever made. Smoother than the 4.6, better torque than the 3.9, and more economical than both!
