Disco Brake Pads

Front brake pads appear to have worn out. Caught in different part of country from my workshop manual. How difficult is it to change the front pads on a disco?

Wheels off I guess, but then what??

Can any one provide a quick guide??

Cheers Geoff

Absolute piece of piss - pull split pins out of the ends, pull the bars out, lever out pads push pistons in to make room for new pads being thicker and replace making sure to use new springs (should come with the pads) and apply sufficent copperslip to reverse of pads and chrome parts of pistons.

I've tried all different makes and the genuine parts ones are the best due to best cushion on back of pad, best springs with them and friction surface properly chamfered on leading and trailing edge to reduce noise.

Could anyone tell me where I would get new pins and springs? I bought a set of pads but they didn't have a fitting kit with them.

Any suggestions?

Unless they are in obvious need of replacement you may as well re-use the old ones.

Pad fitting kit available from Paddock, Craddocks or any of the other usual suspects - couple of quid per axle - contains the pins and springs but you still need copper grease - like the man says you can reuse the old ones if they are not too far gone.

Dead easy! Wheels off, pull the securing pins and withdraw the pads. Might have to tug a bit to get them out if your discs have worn a lip on the rotor.

Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly (as it says in the Haynes 'Book of Lies').
