disco1 starter motors

got in the landie after work, turned the key and nothing. radio came on but the starter was not turning, tried it a few times popped the bonnet tried it again and it sprang into life. the previous owner put a new battery in it so i guess he had the same problem. anyone know of anywhere that sells them at reasonable prices, paddocks want £100. anywhere cheaper.

That sounds more like a dodgy connection to the solenoid.

you could well be right, had a quick look but could not find anything obvious, gave the 12v ignition supply crimp a wiggle. engine was too hot to do much else. whilst looking at the starter motor i noticed one of the core plugs leaking slightly so that's another job to do. i read somewhere that if buying a used landie to have £500 spare to do repairs, that's probably about right. up to now i have repaired the P gasket, one swivel needs renewing, the starting problem and now the core plug. the joys of motoring! still would rather have a landie than a normal car.
