Don't apologise. I'm quite capable of distinguishing bigotry from humour, and poor taste is almost always funny.
If you want really funny, try this. One of the powerlifting team has an imaginary friend. Not funny in itself, except that he hates him. So, quite out the blue, he'll turn to the person not sitting next to him and tell them to f*ck off before he smacks their face in!
