Hopefully only temporarily by my pride and joy has had to go back in today under the warranty for the replacement engine. Heaven knows how long.

In the meantime I find myself in a Seat Ibiza and it feels for all the world like I am riding in a go cart with my arse a couple of inches from the road. It might be quieter, it might even have a heater (who wants it in this weather) but it is not the same, how I miss already, the upright driving position, the positive feedback of the engine noise, and the "real" steering.

I reckon people who drive in that sort of thing everyday have forgotten what it means to drive, there is so little feeling of connection with what you are doing.

Indeed, there are plenty who have never known what it is to "drive" and many who will never.

Engine feedback? Like if it stops smoking it's out of oil ;-)

that might account for the lack of driving ability so often observed.
