mineral v synthetic in turbo 90

I used a Halfords mineral oil in my 90 turbo and have had problems with overheating after a bit of hill work. Although the spec on the sheet in the shop said suitable for the model the can said "non turbo". Should I have erred on the cautious side? Only done a thousand miles and switching back to a "turbo" semi synth. It'll be interesting to see if this does the job.



Does the oil type make a mjor difference with running temp and if so what's the groups reccomendations for a 15 year old turbo?

I came across the same confusion with my 2001 Defender TD5. I found it hard to believe that mineral oil was adequate, but Halfords thinks it is and so does the dealer who services it. He always uses mineral oil, presumably on Land Rover's advice - the car is still under warranty!

I think with the old Turbo D engine it is not going to be as simple as the grade of oil making it over heat.

Blown heat gasket, cracked head , viscous fan, Rad core should all be checked first. if you take the head of you will find that all the pistons will be cracked too!
