more D2 woes

Hello group i posted a while ago about a problem i had/have with my year

2000 d2 V8. It started with what looked like a capital letter "B" with a line thru it, this was situated to the left of the trip meter, i beleive this is where gear selected is on auto models (mine is a manual ). When this B was showing, indicators, heated rear screen, cent locking, rear wash wipe, didnt work. I used the disco like this for a day or 2 and the B went off only to be replaced by the total miles done to start flashing, about once per second. since the B has gone off all functions have returned but the flashing miles done remains.

so do i live with it? or try to investigate with your help? i suspect a control mode is playing up? which one n where?

Thanks in advance

When the fuse blew feeding the main ECU(*) the display flshed as you described. Looks like it might be communication problem between the ECU and dash unit.

I believe the total miles is stored in the dash and ECU if they don't agree on power up it flashes. Makes clocking the motor just a little bit harder.

Grab a wiring diagram and see which computers are connected to the dash and wiggle those joints. Don't know if disconnecting any with the battery connected will send things into a fizzy tit.

(*) I'll use ECU but it could be the BECM or one of the other key computers...

sorry dave havn't replaced any fuses (or checked them ) do you know where a ecu or becm is? so i can check for moisture

I think there is a cluster of computers tucked up behind the glove box. Might be damp but I suspect just marginal connection somewhere that a wiggle might clear.
