New LR 110 leaking rainwater

I've recently bought a new 110 td5 hardtop which I'm very pleased with. Much prefer it to the 3yr old 90 I used to have. However they both leak rainwater into the driver footwell. Whilst I was told that older LR's leaked it seems strange that this has not been sorted with new vehicles.

Is there something I can do to plug a few gaps (what mastic if any should I use?) or is this another trip back to dealer to sort out under warranty?

Do all new Defenders leak rain water?

Pete

Don't make the footwells waterproof or come the first heavy rain you'll drown.

Let me know if you every find a solution as it would be nice, just once, to get in it in the morning after its rained and not be greeted by a puddle on the floor. GGJ

Drill bigger holes in the floor.

I have a better designed vehicle (S reg CSW). It leaks rainwater into the passenger footwell only.

I have a horrible suspicion it'll be patent-protected, but if not, care to share your secret regarding the driver's side?

Wildly optimistically,

I have SWMBO sitting in the passenger seat. If there's a mosquito around, it bites her. When the Defender leaks, it rains on her. Just the nature of the world. I get blamed for everything.

Well, the 6 month old 90 I was looking at today has a round hole in the vertical face of the footwell, cunningly waterproofed by......... ....... the carpet!!

as does my C reg.

I think you'll find that if you can park it nose-down it doesn't do this, or not so much.

We must really love our defenders to put up with this. Anyway I suppose I'm glad not to be on my own.

mine's amazingly watertight for it's age and the wear and tear on the body. Never tracked down where that pesky footwell leak comes in though.

That's the norm - even on left hand drive. In my 98 90 the passenger side footwell carpet gets wet, but if I remove it I never see any water coming in. Id have an LPG tank strapped under the floor but I don't think it's condensation. I did find that a blanking grommet was missing from the hole for the wipers on LHD. Also someone previously reported an incorrectly fitted seal below the windscreen. I am about to replace the seals around the front flaps to see if that has any effect.

I'm thinking of bringing out a range of suitably shaped duck boards and a new first-aid kit including ointment for trench foot. Any takers?

On the subject (ish) -

There are two man-made things which are visible from outer space - the Great Wall of China, and the gaps in the panels of a Land Rover!!!

If it doesn't leak it isn't a Landrover! If I don't drive mine for a few days in the rainy season ... mold forms all over the seats, dash and steering wheel. I should grow mushrooms in it!

My 110 leaks from the doors ... water collects in the doors and then seeps out of the bottom onto the floorboards.

Also that vent thing on top of the front fender is also a culprit. There are drainage holes in it but they get clogged up and the water somehow finds itself onto the floor via the bulkhead.
