Noisy water pump??

1986 90 Hardtop 2.5 petrol 47,000 miles (true mileage!) Engine is as quiet as it should be when cold but once warm it rattles, a tinny rattle (like a timing chain). Is that the water pump? If so how difficult to replace and any tips?
