Just goes to show, if you don't ask, you don't get.

Saying "claim" makes it sound like a legal right, but they don't have to pay a penny. Your mother signed the contract to buy a car at a price. If the dealer offers some kind of a refund (in cash or kind) to a customer who complains, I reckon that's bloody generous. And good business - why piss off your best customers?

Happened to my mother too. She signed up for a retirement flat (new build) and the builders reduced the prices by 10K a couple of months later as the flats weren't selling. They refunded her the difference so that she only paid what the later customers were paying, and *she had been living there six weeks*. She didn't even have to ask. I thought that was very decent of them, and I told them so.

Not all businesses are bad.

Trouble is, the *discount* is in the form of a series of *dealer cash vouchers* rather than an actual official price cut. But it does apply (apparently) to all models in the Discovery range at all dealers.

Somebody mentioned to me in passing earlier today that they reckoned this cut is down to the fact that there are (a) loads of spare chassis (when LR took over that chassis manufacturer they apparently ordered a fixed number of same as part of the deal) and (b) there are significant stockpiles of the vehicles at the Gaydon and other storage yards at present which they want to clear before the new model comes out.

What will be interesting to see if whether the EU importers drop their prices still further to match. I rather doubt they will, because I suspect this discount is for franchised dealers only, for private customers and not volume trade deals.

Maybe it's an additional statutory right for mothers buying cars?
