OT - 3/4 Sankey

Does any know the correct tyre/wheel size for a Sankey trailer. I don't have a spare and can't make out the markings on mine.

I believe the specs are; 5 stud 5.00x16 rims with 6.50x16 tyres @ 30 psi.

Does anybody know where I might get a spare?

I thought they were bog standard Land Rover wheels, same as you'd find on any SWB Series vehicle. The big benefit being that you don't have to carry different spare wheels - a big issue for the Army I would guess.

Could be wrong of course...

In article , snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com (Martin \(Wirral, UK\)) growled:

I takes standard land rover rims (so you don't need to carry a spare[1]) but I believe that you need a lorry trailer tyre which is a 6.50x16 *C*. We got one from our local tyre dealer but he had to order it. Came next day.

[1] Be warned however that dished rims, as came on our 90, don't fit because of the strange rim on the end of the Sankey hub. However you can cut this off, which we've done.

Wheels on mine are exactly as my SWB 2A i.e. 5.00x16, stamped with the Dunlop logo and 231601. Tyres are 6.50x16. MOD technical handbook confirms tyre size but doesn't seem to state pressure, other than 'to the recommended figure'. HTH Alan

But most ex- military stuff has the tyre pressure stencilied on such as "TP28" or "TP 35" etc etrc immediately above the tyre on the arch...worth a look.

Thank all. I'll keep my eye out for a set.

The spare on my S3 (235/85R16) probably wouldn't fit, the current tyres look a bit old.

It doesn't get used much or go very far, but when it does it tends to be overloaded, so I want to ensure the tyres are up to the job.

Your specs seem correct - my wide track came with 30 psi stencilled over the wheel arches. However, I've found that the tyres get hot when it's (very) overladen, so under those conditions I run them at 35 psi. Seems to do the trick.
