P38 4.6 HSE Rear Wiper woes

Rear wiper U/S since I bought the vehicle, a known fault and accepted at time of purchase. So eventually after about 18 months thought I had better have a look, so obvious route....bought a S/H but working replacement wiper motor, fitted and still no joy!!!!

There are two plugs that go to the motor, a 3 pin which I understand is the 'Park'...I have power to this plug, and a 2 pin elsewhere on the motor, no matter what switch I pull shove squeeze etc, no power to this 2 pin smaller plug, but, the rear washer works as it should!

I am guessing that it could be a faulty relay, but where is it???????

Any help would be appreciated.

many thanks

Nige uttered summat worrerz funny about:

Don't they have a cunning trick of not working while the door is open too... worth closing it to eliminate this at least.

Yes they do - if you open the door it won't work and won't get any power.

Are you sure your 2nd hand motor is working? - they are known for going bad - have you tried powering the motor directly to see what happens?

So theres a tilt censor or a a breaker somewhere in the door surround or on the door latch?

Yes, the switch that detects if the tailgate is open stops the wiper - in fact, it's the only way to stop the motor in a position so that you can to change the wiper blade!

On the RRC any open door (or at least the driver's door) will prevent the tailgate wiper operating.

It stops if the interior lights are lit, just in case they are lit because of the rear tailgate being open, otherwise it would damage the arm. You can test it if you open the drivers door window and lean in to switch it on with all the doors closed.
