Depends on your newsfeed (the usual ISP's are not that keen on news feeds and tend to delete quite quickly, whereas dedicated news feeders (supernews.com, newsfeeds.com etc hold them much longer)

You are also using Outlook Express, which seems to delete messages according to the phase of the moon, prevailing wind and mains frequency, rather than any logical algorithm. I commend

The normal, simple, default, method is for a news server to delete articles in the order they _arrived_, usually done as a batch once per day. What OE6 does, God knows. You'd do better to get a Series I equivalent like what I use, instead of that fake Lamborghini body of a news reader which sits on a clapped-out VW Beetle floorpan.

(Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with a fake Lamborghini body on a VW Floorpan, as long as your girlfriend is deaf and a little short-sighted.)

The technical overheads are frightening and many ISPs will simply sub it to the likes of Supernews 'cos it's a lot less painfull.

Rotation is done in two ways: By 'days old' and by drive space used. Generally binary groups will expire a lot quicker. Some low traffic non-binary groups will have smashing retention.
