Range Rover frnt e-window fuse.

any assistance offered greatly appreciated.

1989 RR Front electic window fuse "pops" the moment I turn on the ignition. There must a short, but where. First happened while driving. Rear windows works fine, well one of them does but that will be something different.

probably a dodgy switch.

Un-plugged both front window switches, turned the ingnition on and "pop"there goes another fuse...

erm... I'd need to investigate the wiring diagram in that case. The one that kept doing that in my disco was an iffy switch.

page 14.33 in the RR haynes has the wiring diagram. There are 3 fuses - 7,

10 and 20, which one's blowing?

'far as I can see, fuse 7 runs both window relays - front and rear, and this is what enables the windows when the ignition's on. fuse 10 is the supply to rear window motors and fuse 20 to front window motors.

For some odd reason the driver's door has a control unit, while the rest of 'em don't.

The window supply from the relay (front in this case) goes via WG wiring to the centre terminal of the passenger window switch and 2 wires to the window controller in the driver's door. I assume the driver's door has a one-touch window-down or something. Since you've tried disconnecting the switches, I'd suspect either the control unit or the driver's window motor. If you pull the door trim, you can disconnect the motor from the control unit, and see if that sheds any light. Other than that you have to trace the wiring between the front window relay and the passenger door switch and the unit in the door.

yes, thanks Austin,

that's great,

I am hoping to give that a go (disconting motor) this weekend, till then, the sun roof will do.
