Re: New Wheels

You might laugh, but two of the things arent. The date code on the tyres are 7

years old!!! I'm not right

happy about that. The bloke doing the balancing told me two of em are out of

shape tyres ffs!

>I phoned Craddocks & they are sending another two all balanced up etc. But

selling old stock as new & not

checking the tyres is a bit naughty in my book.

How many years old are the bargrips fitted to an average 101?

I had a long discussion with Al at Bling about this as an Ambi was considering had them on. Turns out they were about 23 years old!

Be glad you never saw the ones on Burrt when he arrived. Sidewall cracks you could lose a small child in... - one way or another...

The Petlas are a horrible alternative (and don't go over 50mph for very long either) but were 'in stock' and black rather than 30-year old grey...

Neither did Burrt - apart from on the back of a recovery truck, that is!

tellyerwot's also interesting. Went out looking at tyre ages on the vehicles... The almost-knackered BFG ATs on the disco all date from early

2000, and are starting to look a bit "old" in the casing department. All the ones on the minibus are 2005, which isn't really a surprise as they were all ordered in specially, not in stock at the tyre shop.

The Avon Rangemasters on the Series III, one of which at least is quite new, don't seem to carry a date code. They have DOT numbers, but not the date code.
