P.S. Anyone know where I can get a cheap '99 Passat 110 TDI turbo cheap?!

We've got the Alhambra, which is SEAT's 'Sharan'. My understanding is that it's essentially the same 1900 TDi diesel in all the VAG group vehicles of that age, so pretty much anything ought to fit.

FWIW, ours always has burned a lot of oil. Initially the garage put this down to running-in, but it's never diminished. It doesn't do an enormous mileage, but a lot of urban work.

In your case, I'd fix it up and get rid of it, because of the cost of the flywheel/clutch, which is a hidden biggie on those. Ours is 02, so it's a slightly later box, but IIRC the clutch is the same. The flywheel went just out of warranty at 800UKP. I'm never buying another VAG vehicle again, and certainly never another SEAT.

Nice design, but I've had two VWs now spaced at twelve year intervals, both were cheaply built and effectively wore out. I'm expecting the wheel bearings to go on ours soon, and probably the clutch again (60k miles).

My 53 golf and my 07 golf both use a litre every 10K

VW seem to think its normal...
