Re: Stub Axle - How to tell if its Fuc....... not working as it should

Rust? Obvious witness mark where the seal runs? (Grooved). If it is grooved and was leaking and still leaking after the seal was replaced, be sure it's needing replacement.

Not all that expensive anyway.

Mike.

I have taken the stub axle from my 1987 Range Rover and i need ti tell if i > need to replace it. > > How can i tell if it does need replacing?? Are there any tell tail signs to > look for?? > > > Any help gratly appriciated. > > > Mark > > >

Shouldn't run a Rangie then ;-) £30 saw my 110 with a replacement one!

Anyway - assuming we are talking about the stub axle and not the swivel, £117 sounds pricy. Based on what info you gave me, 252 Spares in Dumfries can probably supply for about £70 plus vat etc, assuming the part no is what they think it is, given there has been some superseding - 01387-257252 will get them.

Surely the usual "specialists" can do them?

Best of luck - Mike.

I've bought a couple of good used stub axles (1 front & 1 rear) in the last couple of years from my local independant dealers, for no more than £40 each - both in excellent condition.

I suggest you shop around - there are enough dismantlers around that you shouldn't need to go anywhere near a new unit!

Regards,

Horse.

P.S. I got my stub axles from 4+4 in Leeds and Gratech in Essex.
