result!

I bought a Kenlowe kit to put on the transit, on which some clown has broken the mounting for the viscous fan.

put it on and all was fine, but then one of the terminals came loose in the temperature controller thing. Phoned 'em today, they're sending a replacement out first class post and would I mind sending the old one back so they can check what's wrong with it.

Good service, and that was offered straight away, I didn't have to ask.

Nice!

Second result of the day... I bit the bullet and ordered a Viscous coupling for the 101 given the water pump swap didn't stop the bearing noise. Richard didn't have one in but said he would have one for tomorrow.

I popped out to pull the old Viscous off to compare when I collect the new one... gave the 101 a run with it off and the noise was still there....grrrrr! Cancelled the Viscous order with Richard Popped in to the local Halfords and picked up a new fan belt.... went back again and swapped it again for the right one as some comedian had swapped the belt in the cardboard sleeve... fitted the belt and the frigging bearing squeak disappeared... was only the friggin fan belt after all that. Still I have the satisfaction (I think) of known good waterpump now. Did sound convincingly like a bearing about to shower balls all over the place.

What really confused matters was when the old water pump had a squirt of oil flung on the bearing (avoiding the belt completely) the dammed thing shut up.... must have been a fluke or two squeaks. From past experiance of lubricating water pumps the seals always gone shortly afterwards. Peace of mind I suppose, don't want to be coasting along a hard shoulder with 3 ton of rivets if I can avoid it.

Sorry for the confusion Richard!... oh and I did notice a few other bits as soon as I got under the bonnet.. 15psi rad cap (seals looking dodgie on this one, got a split 'init) ... damn forgotten the other again... oh fan belt (now sorted!)

You can test if the seals have gone by getting a passenger to open the filler hatch while you are driving and the truck is warm and see if they get squirted with warm water!.

Mine has no clamp on the filler lid. When it was moving it used to pop up and it would squirt water all over the passenger side window (or passenger...)
