ROT - Caravans.

Hi, we're looking to spend under £2000 (way under if possible) on a caravan. As I have no experience at all in this area I'm asking for basic advice on the 3 or 4 things to look for/avoid/insist on when looking. Also, any recommendations of places to look ion the East Mids.

Thanks in advance - David.

You should probably enquire at uk.rec.caravanning also.

I may, but seeing as so many LR drivers seem to own caravans (there were lots up at the GLASS w/end in Ambergate, we went for a bit of Laning - thanks Graham!) I thought I'd ask here...

Damp and any water ingress is by far the worst you'll be looking at so far as regards the living-in bit. Obviously the chassis, running gear, brakes etc need to be well in order.

I'd go buy a couple of the caravan magazines and read through the 'buyers guide' sections.

Chassis is easy to check, most are galvanised, so should be OK.

Damp in the walls is the main problem. It is fairly easy to check for with a damp meter, but they would have to allow you to poke small holes in the inside lining. They usually do so inside cupboards, or behind joining strips so it is not visible.

Look at the title you gave this thread!!

ROT - Caravans

that about sums it up!! damp meter is essential, but for under £2K you'll have to kiss a few frogs before you find your handsome prince........

Be willing to walk away.....

alot!!!!!!!
