Series 2a round heater leaking from matrix

Has anyone ever successfully repaired the matrix on one of these, or does anyone have a sound one for sale at a sensible price?

eBay shows only a square one at the moment, which I don't think will fit easily.

The matrix on mine is leaking, and as it is claimed that it is plated steel, I doubt it can be repaired. I've asked for a quote from a local repair place and also from Claytons Climate Control for a matrix or a complete heater, as they are the only people who seem to list them.

I've seen them rebuilt with loops of micro bore central heating pipe. Dunno if that helps much but if cosmetics of the unit is important then it may help retain the look.

I've found a design for that which looks quite easy to build if I was doing it myself, but cosmetics aren't important, it *is* a Land Rover after all, if you see what I mean.

I was hoping for an easier answer than bending, cutting and soldering yards of pipe and dozens of fins. I'm on the bone idle side of lazy, I'm afraid, but more importantly I don't have access to an area where I can do such things.

Thanks anyway.

if it's a slow leak then Barrs leaks or similar might stop it.

That's a bloody good idea, and easy to do, why didn't I think of it, that's what I can do with my 86" Series One round heater which also leaks. It would work ok without the fins if crowded with enough pipes. Failing that I've seen quite a few on autojumble stalls at various shows throughout the summer (doesn't help just now I know) for around £40-60ish nos.

You lot aren't nerdy enough. A post about glitches in the matrix should mention black cats at least once at least once.

Not a slow leak, unfortunately. A couple of hours to get to the level of theleak, even with no pressure cap.

It's looking like a cold winter again.

list both a matrix and a complete heater in their XK120 parts catalogue. I expect the price will be eye-watering but it's worth an enquiry.

Almost 150 quid plus a tenner carriage plus 15% VAT at the moment. I'm buying some thermals tomorrow, I think. It's got a Clayton label stuck on it in the picture, so I'll see what they're charging direct. At least the chap from Guy Broad was prompt in replying.
