Shuddering RR

Hi all

Anyone out there in a position to shed any light on a problem that has just manifested itself in my 1989 RR Classic (diesel).

When driving under power (not free-wheeling) I get a slight bounce or shudder or hesitation similar to missing in a petrol motor from the vehicle. I recently replaced one of the UJ's and as far as I can see none of the others are going or gone.

I do have a slight bit of play in the output shaft form the transfer box, but as far as I can see it is no worse that it was 4 years ago.

Would it / could it be the bushes? Any suggestions as to what it might be would be very welcome.

Do you have a diff lock or Viscous coupling? Our 1990 VM rangie occasionally gets a Viscous "shudder" after taking various bends in the road with particular loading under power (most noticeable on a particular bank with a bend leading to the accent.)

It's still going and has done it for the last 3 to 4 years that I recall...pretty much as long as we've owned it.

i had a 1986 rangie that did that . is probably not the UKs you need to look at ,on mine it was the slip joint on the front prop , ie the extending part of the prop that was vibrating .. the slackness [from age and useage] in the joint made the prop run out of balance .

UJs didnt seem to last long ..

i cut and shortened a 110 front prop and installed that , the shudder went then .

you probably need another [decent] front prop.

dont forget to check the wheel balance also before ripping the prop out , just in case . .

I think it was dirty diesel .......changed the filter an it seems to have made a difference

Thanks all

Also had this...with our the filter seemed to be loose alowing air to be sucked in...result on deceleration was strong potential for a stall immediately before very lumpy idle.
