Out playing this weekend with my brothers newly purchased 90 ( 200tdi) and noticed a strange noise from the front end when in low box centre, diff locked and under full load up a steep long climb. The noise sounded like a very dry bearing sort of high pitched metalic grating almost like when the brakes are down to metal, we could not get the noise to occur in any other situation so it was very hard to locate. i know this is going to be nearly impossible to diagnose from my dodgy description but any sugestions will be greatfully recieved. it also has a front mounted winch with pto from the box idoubt this has anything todo with it but thought i better mention it.

I think I'd start by checking all the fluid levels and quickly before something wears out.
and the front propshaft splines well greased? and no stones in the disc brakes?
diff oil checked ? as against water content...
