Top rail of radiator lifting in RRC 3.5 Efi

Lifted the bonnet for the pre-MOT glance (it's on Thursday) to see that the nearside end of the top plate on the radiator has become detached from the end piece of the rad - looks as though the soldering has fractured). It is not impossible that this has been the situation for some time. There are only faint signs of weeping from the core at the very top at both end pieces. If I squeeze the top hose the rad bulges up slightly.

Obviously I'm going to buy a new rad from those nice people at Paddock but in the meantime do you think it will fail the MOT test?

BIG

TIA

Richard

PS why do rads always cause problems in cold weather when they should be under least stress???

Always check out radiator specialists like Serck before you buy new. Repairs can be very competitive. They'll also sell you new ones. I think that Serck and Partco are in bed together so if you don't have a Serck branch, Partco may be able to help.

Not itself part of the test but, obviously, engine must be able to run long enough for those parts of the test that need a running engine. Realistically if the engine will run for the duration of the test .... It sounds as though you're running around happily anyway so all seems OK.

Thanks Dougal,

Your thoughts re The Test echo mine. Paddock want (only) £110 + VAT for the rad whereas I paid more than that - possibly around the £150 mark - to have the existing rad re-cored about two years ago (and it had to go back because the ends where not parallel!!! I doubt Paddock's is genuine but if it lasts another year (I'm getting rid of the RR as soon as SWMBO changes jobs) who cares? Also Paddocks have always succeeded with next day delivery. But I will look at Partco just to be sure.

Cheers Richard
