Totally OT.. Wierd Bug evening

I had an odd invasion of bugs yesterday night, we have a lamp in a window at the side of the house, which always attractcs bugs, but I had some odd ones last night..

At first, I thought a bat was flying into the window, there was a load of load thunks, but it was these huge 1-1.5" beetles, two of which got themselves entangled in the window frame, one was half in a spider web, and the spider popped out, took one look, and legged it LOL..

Never seens anything like them B4

Then A Bright red and black moth hung around, so I went out to try to take pix, but my digi cam is hopeless in dim light, so they where naff, but there was a big flat/round spider (About 1p sized) on the wall making a little ball of eggs.. Not seen that type of spider B4.

Off topic I know, but twas an odd evening, so I thought I'd bore U with it LOL

Them big bugs are called May bugs. They like to sleep in our porch, mostly in my work boots.......can be scary in the morning!!!. What is even more fun is hitting one at 50mph on the trail bike with an open face helmet on!!!...Owwww.

We do get pipistril bats all the time, even if we have a BBQ with lots of people that runs into the dark, great watching them dive bomb :)

Having been a biker for many years, and looking at the size of them buggers... OOOOOOOWWWWWW Indeed.. I'd say one in the chest or kneecap would be even nastier. ;)

Funny, been here 5 years, and it's the first time they've bounced off us LOL

Made Bruce buy me a closed face helmet after being hit just above the right eye with one, after travelling home from Earl Shilton one evening. Gave me a black eye. Bruce found it funny.

Was this the moth?

I saw one today, in the daylight they look more dark green and red. The caterpillars are amazing - they go round in gangs, dressed in their natty rugby shirts, and can almost strip a ragwort plant while you watch.

Hi the moth is definetly not Cinnabar and was probably a Tiger Moth.

Cinnabars are day flyers and will be fast alseep at night. the bug was definently a CockChaffer or May Bug. (They are the same)

were the beetles sort of brownish colour, and fairly flat, and elliptical shaped?

if so, we had one here too.

they might have been cockchafers, though, which are big sods and tend to suddenly appear. I'll have a look in the beetle book.
