Unique Landrover Parts

LOL, most things fall part on a Landover, apart from the stuff you NEED to get off!

I have discovered a unique Landrover part.

It's a telepathic bolt with a high-tensile steel core and a pot metal head.

Normally a bolt head would look something like

__ / \ / \ | | | | \ / \--/

If this magic bolt detects the intention in your mind to go near it with a spanner/socket/whatever it immediately becomes more like

O

2 of the damn things so far needing "coaxed" out.

Coaxed with:

Penetrating Oil Heat Cold chisel Peen hammer Club hammer Sledge hammer Cordless Drill Corded Drill

and eventually welding a fecking bar to the head so I have some purchase.

One of these on the drive flange on the propshaft, the other on the flange on the half-shaft retainer.

I wonder how many of these damn things got into the process.

Although, I've discovered why the diff disintegrated.

I pull the drain plug out to drain the diff and there's a nice rushing sound as of air going *in* to the Diff - the thing had less oil in it than the US in 25 years time.

The halfshafts still had a little bit which they proceeded to pour down my shoes though.

Paul S. Brown vaguely muttered something like ...

'seasy .. just walk away saying "I didn't really need that bolt to come out anyway" in as convincing a manner as you can.

Next time you start the LR up, the bolt will just drop out .. 'course, you'll have to then find where it dropped to, but that's a whole new tale .. ;)

Welcome to series landrover ownership!

Youre sure to find many more round bolts yet! I like to think of my angle grinder as a round spanner, as it usually undoes the round bolts. :)

So Derry Argue was, like

Serious hacksaw, set of cold chisels, lump hammer, and forearms like Popeye.

How I LOVE my angle grinder!

Except of course that as soon as you get the grinder near it, it instantly becomes loose in its hole, and just spins as you attempt to grind it, usually managing to rip large lumps out of the disc as it does so!
